In this hybrid creation performed by two actors, Mozambican dancer and choreographer Idio Chichava offers a sensitive perspective on the new masculinity.
Vejo Anjos que atravessam o sol na minha sala comprises dance, sound architecture, and stage design. Within a space created using recycled materials and everyday objects of consumption, Idio Chichava and Lulu Sala engage in an intense, intimate hand-tohand combat, in a reflection of the diversity of Mozambican society and the forces at work within it. How do male bodies absorb the evolution of social constructs? How do they interact? The dancers sketch out answers by creating an imaginary world in which only their bodies exist and coexist, between defiance and harmony. Their movements form a vocabulary that is constantly reinventing itself, one that is born from the body own memory, from its relationship to a social and political reality, as well as to the electronic music mixed with traditional instruments, composed by May Mbira. By exploring the experiences and influences of the two performers themselves, who come from different generations, the piece elicits emotions and ideas that speak to the present.
