Three friends mourn the passing of their pets. Pomme-frite (French Fry) uses a theatre of homemade ritual at a child’s eye level, in which love and invention overcome reality, in which death becomes a plaything, a narrative, a metamorphosis.

A makeshift, joyous, and poetic ceremony, through which the loss of a loved one becomes a playground for the imagination. Three friends, now grown up, recall the rituals they invented as children to bury their pets. These small, improvised rituals – a cherry pit offered here, a Marseillaise whistled there – become the starting point for unexpected fictions. A documentary video drawn from a collection of testimonies from children dialogues with the stage in a sparkling friction that brings forth parallel worlds. In homage to children’s boundless imagination, Pomme-frite (French Fry) gradually drifts away from reality, plunging into a fantastical, luxuriant biotope where departed animals return as playful tricksters, recounting their adventures from beyond the grave. With this minimalist yet exuberant work, Valérie Mréjen has authored a theatrical fantasy that deftly combines humour and tact to broach the delicate subject of children’s first experiences of death.

Bicycle batteries are not allowed inside the performance hall.
