True to its ambition to highlight young artists, the 7th edition of 100% L’EXPO gives carte blanche to some fifty recent graduates of French art schools. It is an invitation to discover their works as you wander through the Grande Halle de la Villette.
What inspires artists when they leave school, and how do they make their way in society and the art world? These questions run through the programming of 100% L’EXPO, which has for the last several years proposed an eclectic overview of a young art scene, in which forms, techniques, media, and experiments are used to tell new stories and present new ways of looking at the world. Established in collaboration with a selection of French schools that changes in part every year, the exhibition features the works of artists who have received their degrees in the last five years. The novel exhibition design is also in sync with contemporary concerns: extending over 3,500 m2, it is composed entirely of recovered elements (picture rails, pedestals, and display cases) from former events held at La Villette. As a site of stimulating and free discovery for the public, 100% L’EXPO is also intended as a professional springboard for these artists at the start of their careers, as a networking opportunity. It includes a programme of performances and lectures.
