ANNABEL GUÉRÉDRAT
Let's go back to the river
ARTISTS INITIATIVES
3h30
The choreographer Annabel Guérédrat envisioned her new duo performance as a procession, a lengthy healing ritual inspired by the shamanic teachings of Native Americans in the Caribbean.
Annabel Guérédrat opens a new chapter in her career with Let’s go back to the river, which continues her interest in the body politic and the social position of black and mixed-race women in the Caribbean. She envisions this dance performance as a vision quest and crowning of Oxun, the divinity of sweet water associated with spiritual and material wealth, as well as women’s emancipation. To develop this healing ritual, in which Caribbean shamanic teachings are combined with Afro-descendant rituals, two female performers embrace the collective history of women and mothers in the Caribbean.
