A 2023 Creation

The ten jugglers of the Petit Travers Collective reveal their unique practices and backgrounds in a choral piece set to music by the Debussy String Quarter. A collective self-portrait resembling a perfectly staged ballet.

In Our Internal Mornings, each artist in the collective reveals him/herself a little to blend more fully into a common movement and to draw a world of relationships, of mischief and lyricism, and of music and dance. In a series of scenes, each performer demonstrates his/her specific technique (balls, sticks, etc.) and listens to his/her words, which were put together by writer Jean-Charles Massera and recorded. Little by little, a mosaic of moments and flashes of individual thought emerges, echoed by the group. The dynamic is reinforced by the repertoire chosen with the Debussy String Quartet, ranging from the baroque fantasies of Henry Purcell to the repetitive romanticism of composer Marc Mellits. The intertwining motifs of early music set the stage for the collective compositions, while the rhythmic nature of the contemporary music supports and accompanies each juggler’s individual words and acts. The collective traces an infinite and infinitely graceful playing field within a modular stage design.

Open seating.

Cultural action and mediation

Alongside La Villette’s artistic and cultural education team, the company’s performers hold three post-performance meetings following school and extracurricular shows, three open rehearsals, and four surprise interventions in high schools across the Île-de-France region.

The performances on November 15, 16, and 17 are part of the Nuit du Cirque, an international event organized by Territoires de Cirque, with the support of the Ministry of Culture.
