Creation 2024

Written and performed by the students of Studio 7 at the École du Nord, Tragédie offers a portrait of a generation who has to repair and reinvent everything, a kaleidoscope of perspectives, experiences, and voices on the ruins of our catastrophic world.

From the smoldering wreckage of a downed airplane, young actors and actresses emerge—students who trained between 2021 and 2024 at the École du Nord, the Higher School of Dramatic Arts in Lille, directed by David Bobée. Fueled by the epic breath of this striking scenography, their story is not one of an air disaster, but a reflection on their place within the world they’ve inherited. Tragédie is their graduation performance, created in collaboration with four of their peers who crafted its fragmentary text and developed it collectively on stage.

For directors David Bobée and Éric Lacascade, it marks a symbolic passing of the torch—their own early careers were shaped by devising theatre through collaborative stage writing. Times and imaginations have shifted, and this play gives voice to a new generation: their uniqueness, their vision of the world, and the way they inhabit and reshape it—with joy and inventiveness.
