Intimate objects, souvenirs of a landscape or inherited fragments: seven children’s collections are revealed through the enchantment of a musical and illustrated narrative. A thousand, minuscule treasures contemplated in all their graceful detail as a way to describe love, absence and memory.
Childhood pockets are full of rocks, leaves, and shells – and stories, some of them made up, and some of them real. A theatrical adaptation of their successful book, Victoire de Changy’s and Fanny Dreyer’s Collections gives us the voices of Lucien, Cléo, Suzanne, and other children who collect, order, and cherish these little treasures from a world at their measure. Omar’s chestnut, Cléo’s hands, Lucien’s pebbles, and Pio’s dried flowers represent precious objects, personal, secret relics, and carriers of connections, memories, and transmissions. Like the pages of an aerial notebook, enchanting tableaux unfold, juxtaposing vast panoramas with scenes of private, daily life. A desire, an absence, a need, an inheritance, a gesture: anything can give rise to a collection. Music softly winds between the words, images, and dreamlike collages to carry, by means of a keyboard, voice, and sound effects, this lovely tribute to children’s intuitions about the value of symbols.
