At the intersection of urban dance, memory, and invention, STEP 1 is presenting three pieces in which bodies remember, transmit, and transform.

NADIA « NADÉEYA» GABRIELI KALATI · Sawata · INITIATIVES D’ARTISTES
Inspired by Pan-African dances and the energy of urban dancing, Sawata is a space for metamorphosis. Dancer and choreographer Nadia Gabrieli Kalati invokes water as a vital force and the memory of the world as a way to bridge the private and the collective. Between heritage and invention and at the intersection of House Dance and African traditions, she invents a resonant space in which forgotten gestures come back to life, carried by the memory of bodies.

JULIA ORTOLA · Nexus
When two locking figures meet, their paths and passions interweave. With Nexus, Gemini, a pioneer of locking in France, and choreographer Julia Ortola, aka Funky J, generate a dialogue between two generations through this dance. For this trio version, They have invited a semi-professional Generation Z dancer to join them in creating a living link at the intersection of transmission, teaching, and practice. An intense, organic journey in which locking releases all its expressive, unifying power.

CHRIS FARGEOT · 3h33 in my room (through the window)
Alongside composer Ulysse Zangs, dancer and choreographer Chris Fargeot opens a window onto her inner world. Accompanied by a live acoustic and electronic composition, she revisits her practice, which lies between tradition and transformation. At the crossroads of break and improvisation 3h33 in my room (through the window) is a journey of the senses, a suspended space in which the memory of the body reinvents itself through sounds, silences, and surges.

NADIA « NADÉEYA» GABRIELI KALATI, JULIA ORTOLA and CHRIS FARGEOT are supported by Initiatives d’Artistes en Danses Urbaines, a program co-founded by the Fondation de France and La Villette.
