S-E-D / SHARON EYAL
Delay the Sadness
Est. 50 min
The new, eagerly awaited piece by the Sharon Eyal Dance Company, Delay the Sadness promises to be a spectacular moment of virtuosity. Sharon Eyal has become a significant choreographer in the last several years, each piece an homage to life.
Sharon Eyal and her partner Gai Behar were destined to meet; she was a dancer and emerging choreographer in the Batsheva Dance Company, and he, an organizer of cultural events and nightclubber. In 2013, they launched their dance company, and they have continued to collaborate on major choreographic projects ever since. This includes the wildly successful Love Cycle trilogy, commissions for the Nederlands Dans Theater, the Paris Opera Ballet, and the Gothenburg Opera Dance Company, not to mention side trips into the worlds of fashion and contemporary art. After the shock of Into the Hairy, S-E-D returns to La Villette to present Delay the Sadness, with an original score by Josef Laimon. This highly awaited new work will be performed by a group of eight to nine of the company’s dancers, each one bringing his or her own unique energy and expression to this piece. “By generating a richly textured interaction between individual and collective movements and by creating a dynamic mosaic of interactions and relationships, the dancers will remain at the heart of this piece, their bodies projecting feelings that transcend words”. Sharon Eyal promises to stage vibrating bodies, trances both calm and furious in an intensely taut gestural language that unleashes the beauty of the moment.
