NÉMO FLOURET
900 Something Days Spent in the XXth Century
45min - 1h
900 Something Days Spent in the XXth Century was conceived by Némo Flouret as “a machinic or logistical ritual” reflecting our post-industrial era. A frenetic saraband, both generous and apocalyptic, full of energy and despair, which he is reinventing today for the Grande Halle of La Villette.
An urban, post-industrial setting gradually fills with bodies that will progressively bring it to life, to the frenetic rhythm and increasingly mechanical sound of eurodance. Brandishing a white flag or falling onto the asphalt, the performers animate this abandoned space in a rush, creating a striking series of scenes that act as frantic mini-ceremonies… Since his graduation from P.A.R.T.S., Némo Flouret has consistently sought out non-dance spaces, both as a performer and choreographer, reimagining his nomadic performances each time. Created in 2021 in an old industrial building, 900 Something Days Spent in the XXth Century, for eight performers, a machinist, a lighting designer, and miles of magnetic tape, is inspired by his reading of a short book by Aurélien Bellanger, Eurodance (2018). Inspired by this short, staccato language, Némo Flouret aimed to create a “highway dance” for industrial ruins. Like fragments ripped from a time of not-so-distant utopias, which, in the Grande Halle of La Villette – the quintessential symbol of this golden age of optimism – should resonate in a unique way. Because as Aurélien Bellanger also writes: “There exist human gatherings capable of overturning the unjust order of the world.”
