Australian company Gravity & Other Myths returns to La Villette with an exhilarating virtuoso performance. With their generosity, playfulness, and a sense of fun, the acrobats reveal the behind-the-scenes world of their craft. A funny and moving piece.
Whether as amateurs or professionals, everyone has developed a talent, a practice, an aptitude to which they have devoted hundreds if not thousands of hours. For the acrobats of Gravity & Other Myths, this involves jumps, balancing acts, flights, drops, partner lifts, and human pyramids. Ten Thousand Hours pulls back the curtain on these moments customarily kept out of the public eye, on the practice, effort, even setbacks, but also the perseverance, trust, and cohesion. Bodies rise, stack, tumble, recover, and begin again in a choreography that intertwines the spectacular with the intimate. Driven by the rhythm of live percussion, the company celebrates the joy and pleasure that bring us as an audience back to their art time and again. They show how a practice can support an individual (quite literally, in their case) and build a collective, both on stage and in life. This is contemporary circus at its best, living between prowess and authenticity.
