RAPHAËLLE BOITEL / GROUPE ACROBATIQUE DE TANGER

Since 2003, the Tangiers Acrobatic Group has reinvented acrobatics by embracing new, contemporary styles. With KA-IN, the fruit of the collaboration with director and choreographer Raphaëlle Boitel, this shared history continues to reinvent itself. Using as its starting point Tangiers, the port city facing the Strait of Gibraltar, the piece uses the notion of crossing as its poetic engine: to cross over a sea, a wall, a fear, a limit, ultimately to search for oneself as one strives towards an elsewhere. On stage, thirteen acrobats and dancers form a collective body of individual trajectories that express courage, fear, letting go, and the desire for emancipation. Dizzying lifts, repeated leaps, imbalances, and resistances form an acrobatic oeuvre replete with tensions and solidarities, inspired by a desire to exceed oneself. Inspired by the Berber origins of this form of acrobatics, KA-IN summons the image of a nomad chorus that sings of movement and survival. From falls to elevations, Raphaëlle Boitel presents a dancing circus in which virtuosity is placed at the service of a profoundly human story.
