Ohad Naharin’s Anafaza was created in December 1993 for the 30th anniversary of the Batsheva Dance Company. In June 2023, a new edition was performed in front of 20,000 spectators over two weeks, with live music by Naharin and the band Tractor’s Revenge, Avi Belleli and Danni Makov.

The current interpretation of Anafaza retains the energy and scope of its previous versions but reflects a more cynical, violent, and fractured reality. In addition to beauty, sensuality, and ecstasy, it embodies defiance, presenting a dance that struggles against the swamp of reality threatening freedom of thought, spirit, and body. It seeks to rid itself of the intoxication of power, incitement, and divisive rhetoric, while clinging to the hope for healing and restoration.
