COLLECTIF TRAIT VIVANT
Zigzags
Ages 1 year and older

The women’s collective Trait Vivant combines its many talents to create a waking dream that is suitable even for toddlers. Between dance, music, theatre arts, and graphic creation arises a dancing landscape that sweeps up young and old alike in its movement. A novel way to take one’s first steps on stage!
Trait Vivant uses its broad range of expertise to create a choreography that can indeed be suitable for toddlers, even in its participative forms. Children as young as 12 months old are invited to discover, through their own gestures, however developed they may be, a world of images, dancing, and music inspired by the wonderful illustrated works of Marie Poirier. In giving a living, rhythmic form to two of her early works, Zigzags welcomes children and their accompanying adults onto a joyous stage decorated in paper and felt and inhabited by a dancer and a musician. After this invitation to a contemplative discovery of burgeoning forms animated by the music, the space of the stage opens curiously for the children and their parents. Crossing a bridge, rippling like a river, zigzagging, floating away like a helium balloon, or curling up into a rock, singing and taking shelter in an imaginary cabin: everything is permitted in this collective sensory experience of a score of simple gestures within a vast human landscape that is as unpredictable as it is tenderly euphoric.
